DAW's (Digital Audio Workstations)

What do you use and WHY?  Here is how i suggest you reply (easy to read format) ....

Name: Lewis Hornsby
DAW: Logic Pro 8
Platform: Mac OSX
Likes: Known it since its advent by Legling and Adams (then known as Notator on the Atari ST)
Dislikes: Third party plug-ins are rarely designed as CROSS PLATFORM! ie, I can NOT use pro tools plug-ins.
Why I use it: It is (to me) entirely logical (hence the name).

Welcome

In this blog I would like to open a discussion about various recording/production techniques used in many genres of music in order to learn about, share, and record the specific sounds associated myself, including niche genres.  All suggestions are welcome no matter how ludicrous. I would like this blog to transcend genres with the aim of creating a new sound, for instance... garage music mixed with reggae, ragga jungle and dub/dancehall has, in the last few years, created a genre we now know as "Dub Step". Dub Step has in my opinion peaked unfortunately (since I became a massive fan)  altho to say that would be to ignore the HUGE influence that it has had on generic chart music.

On a personal note, I have played musical instruments since the age of 9, have been learning (slowly) how to use technology as a part of music since the age of 15 (Notator on the Atari ST... progressed to Logic Audio and then STUCK with what I knew) and have studied "Jazz Studies Bmus Hons" at the Birmingham Conservatoire, played in many different bands on a few instruments and have recorded many things. I don't think I am anything special, but I would LIKE to become something special... and who wouldn't???

This is ideally a team effort to make US better music makers! If you like certain things mentioned here but DON'T like other things mentioned then PLEASE look at this as a holistic approach to NONE OTHER than sound production. I would like you to stay and debate/contribute, even if you only have negative contributions (provided they are backed up with reason(s) in plain English).

I shall make my first post now... (very general)
